New features announced for Teams Rooms on Android

Microsoft has announced new features for Microsoft Teams Rooms devices on Android which are available with update 2A. The features include room remote control, a new remote provisioning and sign-in experience, support for sharing via HDMI ingest, auto answer for Meet Now, and 1080p resolution for outgoing video.

As outlined in a Microsoft Tech Community update, room remote allows Teams mobile app users to control Teams Rooms devices from their smartphone. Room cameras and microphones can be turned on or off, volume adjusted, content layout changed and so on.

Remote sign-in and provisioning can now be completed by IT admins from the Teams Admin Center, once a Teams Room device is installed and powered on.

With Teams Rooms now supporting screen sharing through an HDMI connection, sharing starts automatically, but users can also control projection functionality through a new button on the home screen of the touch console.

Teams Rooms can also now be set automatically to answer a “Meet Now” call, allowing the Teams Room to be pulled into an ad hoc call without requiring the user to interact with the device to accept the call.

Select Teams Rooms can also now transmit 1080p resolution, although the performance of this feature can vary depending on bandwidth and other conditions of the room and remote participants.
